Outside the Halls of Government…
After visiting the inside of the Capitol I meandered through the large Capitol Park on my way to meeting for lunch with the local jackals. I then walked to the Sacramento River using the street south of the Capitol Mall, crossed the river via the golden bridge and returned to the Capitol area to drive to the airport.

Stanford Mansion
A few blocks west of the Capitol is the Stanford Mansion, the Sacramento residence of Leland Stanford. Leland Stanford was the eighth Governor of California(the mansion served as the Governor’s Mansion during Stanford’s term(2 years) as Governor as well as the two Governors that succeeded him(the Stanfords had moved to San Francisco). Leland Stanford also server as a US Senator for 8 years(until his death) and founded Stanford University in honor of his son, Leland Stanford Jr. who died as a teenager. The mansion is a State Historical Park and is used for receptions hosted by the Governor.
